Galentine’s Day…it’s not a typo

Galentine’s Day “February 13th, the other half of Valentine’s Day, when you celebrate your love and friendship for your gal friends! Single or not.” Who coined this special day? None other than Parks & Rec, Leslie Knope.

I had never heard of it either, but I love the concept! Besides, it’s just one more good reason to get together with your besties to let them know you appreciate all they do for you.

I decided to kick off this new holiday celebration with a visit to my local Pier 1 Imports store (Harmony & Taunton – Oshawa), who were hosting “Besties & Blooms – A Galentine’s In-Store Event”. With a couple of galfriends by my side, we were oooohed and awwwwed by all the new spring and valentine decor awaiting to adorn our homes. The fabulous presentation by Rob and associates, had us learning how to style a table for a ‘blooming brunch’, how to fold napkins into adoring hearts and how to create the perfect centerpiece for a luminous evening dinner. THANK YOU Pier 1 Imports for a beautiful afternoon! p.s. the truffles were delish xo

It’s no secret, I love to eat, so when I heard Craft Food House was entertaining gals with a New Orleans style cooking class for Galentine’s Day, I called up my foodie friend, grabbed a bottle of wine and headed to Cobourg. It was a full house as we listened to chef Zab talk about New Orleans style of cooking, signature ingredients and how we could prepare these dishes at home. Guest participation was required, so of course I was the first to get behind the counter and start chopping! We dined on shrimp and okra gumbo soup to start (I could have eaten the whole pot), followed by gluten free crab cakes. Next came sausage and shrimp jambalaya, New Orleans would be proud of, and finished with a scrumptious banana foster cake. By the sounds of laughter, champagne corks popping and morsel-free plates, a fantastic evening was had by all. THANK YOU Nuno, Zab and Craft Food House for opening your doors in celebration of Galentine’s Day! p.s. see you soon for your Pop-Up Dinner xo

Valentine’s Day is one of my two favourite faux holidays of the year. Which is my other favourite?… my birthday šŸ™‚

If cocktails and chocolate are the two main ingredients of a holiday, you know it’s one of my favourite special days. To add a little love into your home for Valentine’s Day, embrace these 3 Valentine Little Luxuries for a smooch-worthy evening.

One: Out with the Pink, In with the Mint

Be daring and step away from the go-to pinks and reds. Instead, step toward the lovable hue of mint. It’s soft romantic colour will be adored on Valentine’s Day and will last through Easter and into summer gatherings.

Two: Serving in Style

Valentines is always sweeter when signature cocktails are involved. Be sure to serve up your favourite beverages from your stylized bar cart.

Three: Seductive Succulents

Your florist has so many beautiful flowers to choose from, so don’t limit yourself to roses. A gorgeous bouquet of flowers on your table will add instant beauty to your space, along with your beaming smile. For an added table topper, include succulents into the mix among tapered and tea light candles for an organic touch.

Wishing you all many cuddles for a fabulous Valentine’s Day!
